Global Disaster Solutions

- The ultimate global access to resources

The mission of Global Disaster Solutions is to provide global resources to make the world a better, safer place. We find ways.

Global Disaster Solutions is designed to help solve some of the challenges of preparedness, response and recovery from disaster. It provides resources for products needed in disaster management, gives factual information about disasters world-wide, and gives links to sites on employment and educational opportunities.

For over 10 years I have maintained the website, www.disastertriaining.org which is a resource for adults working with children. And that will continue because it is still needed.

But disasters affect much more than people - than children. The recent catastrophic typhoons in the Philippines and Viet Nam, earthquakes in Indonesia, tsunami in Samoa, floods in India, and haunting memories of the SE Asian tsunami and Katrina remind us that there are three elements in disaster that can be dramatically affected: people lost and injured, property damaged and livelihoods destroyed.

Global Disaster Solutions provides resources to solve some of the challenges of preparedness, response and recovery for all three. We provide links to well known as well as little known but excellent resources, people who have innovative solutions to challenges of disaster management, organizations that have developed responses to disaster but haven’t yet told the world about their successes.

From the company that has developed innovative construction materials and designs to withstand typhoons or hurricanes to the inventor who has designed a generator that uses no fuel (more information about this resource soon), we find the usual as well as the unusual resources to share with the rest of the world.

Welcome to Global Disaster Solutions. My colleagues and I have launched this blog to help you. We hope you enjoy your visit and that you find the things you need. Please also tell others about the site – the ultimate global access to resources.

If you know a good resource to share, please contact us. This is the place to broadcast it to the world. You, too, can help make the world a better, safer place.

About the Author

Beryl Cheal is a woman with much experience in work related to disaster. She is an educator with 30 years experience directing a United Nations kindergarten system for refugees in the Middle East, working with disaster child survivors in Canada and the US, and US Peace Corps assignments with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in E. Europe and as School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Technical Officer in SE Asia. Throughout her work she has come to realize that disasters occur and there is nothing we can do to prevent those from happening. But it’s only a disaster if the force of the event comes in contact with humans and their activities – and there are things we can do to mitigate the impact of the destruction that often results. She is spending her life finding ways to lessen that impact on individuals, communities and livelihoods.
